Details on new BlackBerry smartphones

by shadowfax (08/10/2007 - 16:38)

In the Internet you can come across some data on the new RIM devices. We are likely to expect soon a version of the BlackBerry Curve with Wi-Fi onboard (index 8320). The BlackBerry Curve 8300 was announced this May and positioned as the most compact and lightweight BlackBerry smartphone with the QWERTY-keyboard. In addition there is some info on a BlackBerry Curve version with GPS (index 8310). This device has been recently introduced in Europe by Vodafone.

The source suggests that the company will release an heir of the BlackBerry Pearl smartphone in fall. There will be GSM and CDMA versions. Both models feature similar specs, but the CDMA version will get GPS and lack Wi-Fi. And the BlackBerry Pearl 2 (GSM/EDGE) will on the contrary support Wi-Fi and no GPS. The info is preliminary and not officially confirmed.

by shadowfax (07/19/2007 - 12:49)

We’ve mentioned it in our news block – the device has been recently certified by the FCC. This product is packed in the traditional form-factor for such models: it has a QWERTY-keyboard and a 320x240 pixels display. The manufacturer positions it as the business product.

The BlackBerry 8820 is a dual-mode device working in GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks and supporting Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g) and UMA technology (Unlicensed Mobile Access). In addition there are an integrated GPS-receiver, a media player, an expansion slot for microSD cards and Bluetooth 2.0 interface (A2DP/AVRCP).

According to RIM, the BlackBerry 8820 communicator will come to stores very soon. It will be available from AT&T operator in the end of summer.

NTT DoCoMo to Start Marketing Japanese Support for BlackBerry

by sweetestdove (07/17/2007 - 19:53)

TOKYO, JAPAN -- July 17, 2007 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced today that it will begin marketing Research In Motion's BlackBerry® 8707h™ with Japanese-language support* on July 23.

Customers using the BlackBerry 8707h will benefit from new features — Japanese input for e-mails (including text prediction) and other personal information management (PIM) applications and a Japanese screen menu — that enhance already existing capabilities such as reading Japanese e-mails and browsing Japanese websites. These developments accommodate the needs of customers intending to deploy the smartphone in a Japanese-language environment.

The launch of Japanese-language support will also include localization of BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ and BlackBerry Desktop Manager. BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with IBM®Lotus®Domino® and Microsoft® Exchange, and enables secure, push-based wireless e-mail and access to other corporate data. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager allows data synchronization between a BlackBerry smartphone and a personal computer.

The Blackberry 8707h device and service will be distributed exclusively through DoCoMo's corporate business division.

DoCoMo will exhibit the Blackberry 8707h at its booth at Wireless Japan 2007, which takes place at Tokyo Big Sight from July 18 to 20.
